A Summer's Delight

The song of the nightingale, the call of the cuckoo, busy bees, gnarled willows, the scent of roses and lilies – with A Summer's Delight, the Marais Consort takes us to the beauties of summer as Shakespeare could not have described them more beautifully. Music from the 16th to the 18th century, from England to Italy, with lesser-known sounds from great names such as Handel and Purcell and rarely heard treasures of anonymous origin, brings the wonders of nature in the woods and fields to life, as well as a few facets of love, of course. 
The Marais Consort was founded in 1978 by Hans-Georg Kramer (viola da gamba) and Ingelore Schubert (harpsichord) as an ensemble for early music. Inspired and confirmed by their own source studies and master classes with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Gustav Leonhardt, and the Kuijken brothers, the path led consistently to historical performance practice. In 1985, they established the gamba consort. In collaboration with violin maker Christian Brosse, they developed a set of Italian Renaissance violas da gamba that led to a completely new consort sound. In 1989, WDR began to accompany this work with recordings, followed later by long-standing production series at Bayerischer Rundfunk. In 1991, the first CD was released on the NOMOS label, with which the Marais Consort continues to record exclusively to this day. The Marais Consort is a welcome guest at numerous international festivals and concert series.
