What does loneliness mean, and how does it differ from being alone? Baroque music offers various answers to these questions. Here, loneliness is portrayed as a consequence of loss and separation, but also as a voluntary retreat, a space for contemplation or self-reflection. With this programme, Capella Jenensis explores the musical expressions of loneliness in the early modern period.
