International Academic Conference
Worldwide stage for education. Are you looking for contact with international Handel specialists? The International Scientific Conference attracts scholars and speakers from all over the world. Inspired by the annual Handel Festival, a musicological aspect is the focus of the lectures, discussions and round tables.
Lecture: 7 June 2025 // Conference preceded by the presentation of the International Handel Research Prize: 10 to 12 June 2025
The Handel Festival in Halle an der Saale in 2025 will be held under the motto ‘Fresh Wind: The Young Handel in Italy’. The International Academic Conference organised as part of the Festival will take this as an opportunity to take a closer look at the Italian texts set to music by Handel - also in his later career - and his contacts with Italian literature and Italian lyricists. We are expecting speakers from Italy, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, Austria, the USA and Great Britain.
As part of a round table initiated and organised by Reinhard Strohm (Oxford) on Wednesday, 11 June, questions of critical edition, translation and digitisation of the texts will be discussed in more detail. The keynote lecture by Silke Leopold, which will take place on Saturday, 7 June, provides an ideal introduction to the conference theme. Finally, the conference will also give researchers the opportunity to present the latest and most recent results of Handel research to a scholarly audience in free papers.
The International Handel Research Prize will be awarded for the seventh time on 10 June as part of the opening of the conference.
