Academic Conference 2024: Infinite Beauties. George Frideric Handel and French musical culture
Lecture: 25 May 2024 // Conference: 27 and 28 May 2024
Although Handel - as far as is known - never travelled to France and although he did not compose any French-language works (apart from the cantata "Sans y penser", which was composed in Italy), almost all groups of works in his oeuvre show links to French musical culture. Against the backdrop of recent theories on cultural transfer and a praxeological concept of culture that focuses on the music-related actions of various actors, the conference aims to facilitate a new understanding of the prerequisites, conditions, scope and significance of the influence of French music on Handel's oeuvre.
