Rome, 47AD. The reports are contradictory: after the battle, no one knows whether Emperor Claudius is still alive. The Empress Agrippina, his wife or widow, has to act fast, because in such a power vacuum as this, anything is possible at court and no one is safe. The crown must be secured at all costs for her son, Nero; at the same time Agrippina forges one new alliance after the other to secure her own status, to ensure her very survival. Agrippina – A Baroque-Jazz Guide is an exciting melting pot of jazz and early music, a steaming, intense concentrate of music and action. The mezzo-soprano Laila Salome Fischer, jazz trumpeter Pascal Klewer and the ensemble Il Giratempo metamorphose into ever-changing characters, shedding new light on the web of intrigue. The musicians of Il Giratempo created a sensation back in 2022 with the crossover CD, Talkin – about Barbara. In Agrippina, the ensemble is reduced to minimal forces: a violin, cello, theorbo, harpsichord, percussion and a projector. This special trip to ancient Rome calls for nothing more. A projector?
