To mark the 100th anniversary of her birth on June 22, the Musikkulturverein will commemorate key milestones in the life and career of composer, university lecturer, harpsichordist, and organist Ruth Zechlin (1926–2007) during a concert and discussion (in German).
This special evening appeals to friends and connoisseurs of Ruth Zechlin’s music - who frequently gave concerts at the Händel-Haus - as well as to anyone interested in the rich musical heritage of the recent past. Selected excerpts from her works, presented in a chamber music format, bring to life the diversity and versatility of a compositional career spanning over 50 years. In conversation with students and Ruth Zechlin’s daughter, retrospectives, analyses, and reflections on her life and work will shed light on the composer, who left behind a body of work that remains relevant to this day and is of more than just national significance.
Organizer: Musikkulturverein Mitteldeutschland in cooperation with the City of Halle (Saale) and the Handel House Foundation
