How did people in Baroque-era London listen to their favourite music when there were no opera performances taking place? This programme draws on the tradition of the so-called ‘Pocket Companions’ and presents works by George Frideric Handel and Louis Merci in an intimate chamber ensemble setting. The focus is on the art of ornamentation and the immediate impact of the music: with flute, cellos, bassoon and harpsichord, opera melodies and instrumental works can be experienced just as they once sounded in small-scale settings – virtuosic, transparent and personal.
Tickets will be available online and at the museum ticket office from 1 September 2026.
