Music that is 800 years old. How does it sound? How does it want to be played? How does it resonate with us, here and now?
The ensemble Sospiratem has found possible and very personal answers to these questions. The four musicians take the audience on a pilgrimage through the Rhine Valley, France and northern Spain - all the way to the basilica in Santiago de Compostela. Along the way, you will celebrate exuberantly with troubadours, linger in sonorous devotion with Hildegard von Bingen and Guillaume Machaut, enter the mighty cathedral to embark on a personal pilgrimage inwards and conclude the concert in joy and dance. The saint, virgin and mother Mary is a faithful companion throughout the programme. A short detour to the British Isles enriches the concert with wonderful Advent songs with a dry sense of humour.
The Leipzig-based ensemble Sospiratem has been making music together since 2013. The sound is orientated towards historically informed performance practice and yet free, because the times in which we live should not be ignored. Between the pieces of music, texts are recited that transport us in a different way into the worlds whose doors the music has opened. The ensemble tells stories with music and text, sound and words: Soulful, wondrous, amusing, contemplative stories that make time stand still for an evening.
