‘We preserve what moves us’ is the motto of this year's 8th European Day of Restoration, and where better to experience this than at the musical instrument collection of the Handel House? Pianos, organs and music boxes move, and their music moves us. But it's not just the music, it's also the stories behind the historical musical instruments. That's why we want to take a look behind the scenes and tell stories that you don't usually hear. Whether in personal conversations or on guided tours of the restoration workshop and museum, we want to share what drives us and the importance of culture and cultural heritage for life in our region.
This year's highlight: Sascha Reckert's lecture and concert on the glass harmonica.
Restoration Day was first proclaimed in 2018 by the European Confederation of Conservators' Organisations (E.C.C.O.). In Germany, it has since been organised by the Association of Restorers (VDR) on the third Sunday in October. The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of cultural heritage and to sharpen public awareness of the key role of restorers in the preservation of cultural assets.
You are cordially invited to attend free of charge!
Programme to be announced shortly (the main language of the events will be German)
