George Frideric Handel's Flavio, re de' Longobardi HWV 16 was originally intended to bear the title “Emilia”, the name of the opera's female protagonist. However, Handel changed it before the premiere to avoid confusion with Bononcini's opera Erminia. Ensemble Mozaïque follows the composer's original intention and focusses its adaptation on the dramatic story of Emilia, whose fiancé becomes her father's murderer. Soprano Maria Ladurner leads us through the events of the opera from Emilia's perspective. Bass-baritone Alexandre Baldo takes on the roles of Lotario, Emilia's father, and Guido, her fiancé. The emancipated pasticcio in modern pocket format reflects the plot through lyricism written by women and won the first prize of the 2021 Göttingen Handel Competition as well as its audience award.

The young international ensemble Mozaïque has its roots at the Mozarteum University Salzburg. As winners of numerous international competitions, the renowned musicians share a common desire to open up baroque soundscapes at the highest musical level in the spirit of historically informed performance practice. One of their main focuses is the revival of unknown and forgotten repertoire.
