Gewandhaus Leipzig

The concert hall is home to the Gewandhaus Orchestra, which is steeped in tradition. It was named after the original Gewandhaus, a trade fair building built around 1500 in Kupfergasse, where textiles were traded. Its most important conductor was Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.
