His collaboration with the French dancer Marie Sallé also plunged George Frideric Handel into the world of dance. Danse l‘Europe is a sensuous experience of music and dance which magisterially links European and Ottoman culture and sheds light on the rich cultural interconnections in the music of the European Baroque period. This many-faceted programme ranges from works by Handel to masters of French Baroque music, such as Couperin, Lully and Ferriol. Complementing this European musical framework is Ottoman music from the seraglio. Joining the much-loved Pera Ensemble on stage are the sopranos Marie-Sophie Pollak and Yaprak Sayar, as well as dancer Mareike Greb, who bring the influence of the Orient during the Baroque period to life through graceful dance.
