For centuries, the harp has been the national instrument of Wales. Its beauty in form and sound has always captivated listeners, giving rise to numerous myths and legends surrounding the instrument. In the late 17th and 18th centuries, many Welsh harpists went to London, where they gradually mixed their traditional songs with popular English music and opera arias. In 2015, Maximilian Ehrhardt, one of the world's leading specialists in historical harps, discovered a special collection of 18th-century harp music at the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth. A selection of the virtuoso music from this unique collection can now be heard on a replica of an 18th century harp.
