Although his operas and oratorios were composed to Italian and English texts, short, French-language gems can also be found in Handel’s work, such as the aria that gives this concert its title, Sans y penser, which means something like “without thinking about it”. In addition, Margot Genet and the ensemble Castor led by Petra Samhaber-Eckhardt will perform one cantata by André Campra and another by Elisabeth Jaquet de la Guerre, one of the first known female French composers. Rounding out the evening will be instrumental works, including a piece of programme music by the rather underrated Jean-Féry Rebel. The concert offers a number of rare works that are worth discovering.
