G. F. Handel wrote anthem settings starting from his early years in London. In doing so, he was adopting a genre popular at the time that corresponded to the specific requirements of the liturgy of Anglican church services. In addition to the cantata Befiehl dem Herrn deine Wege by G. H. Stölzel, the concert will centre on the psalm setting As pants the hart. Handel wrote the work for a charity concert in March 1738 at the King’s Theatre on the Haymarket.
