One of the most famous and most virtuoso baritones of the 18th century was Giuseppe Maria Boschi. His brilliant and intense career is comparable to those of the famous contemporary castrati and sopranos, who included Farinelli, Senesino, Faustina Bordoni, Margherita Durastanti, Francesca Cuzzoni and Nicolini. From 1720 to 1728 he was one of London’s leading baritones and was booked by G. F. Handel, G. Bononcini and A. Ariosti. Warrior, father, lover, tyrant – numerous were the roles in which the nuances of his voice were revealed and which, to judge by the music written for him, were of exceptional range and well suited to dramatic roles. The Italian singer Sergio Foresti is one of the most
sought-after baritones of Baroque music. He has performed at renowned opera houses including Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Milan, Naples and Madrid, and at festivals including Innsbruck, Bruges, Graz and Utrecht. In this concert, you will hear a selection of the most beautiful arias written for Boschi. The singer has on several occasions worked with the Abchordis Ensemble led by harpsichordist Andrea Buccarella, who among other awards won first prize in the Göttinger Reihe Historischer Musik competition for young musicians in 2015.
