Apothéose – La réunion des Goûts
Concluding the reconciling apotheosis of “mixed styles”, the musicians of CAFÉ INTERNATIONAL, themselves from many different lands, have organised an imaginary meeting of the two heroes of Italian and French music, as fancied by François Couperin in L’Apothéose de Corelli and L’Apothéose de Lully. The ensemble sets these two trios or trio sonatas by Corelli and Lully side by side, providing audible evidence of how Handel assimilated and reconciled the two tastes.
