To the question of what he thought of Pergolesi, Stravinsky replied: Pergolesi ... oh yes, Pulcinella!!!. And Poulenc, who admired Mozart‘s music as much as Pulcinella, like Stravinsky wrote an equally humorous ballet, Les Biches, for Diaghilev and his Ballets Russes that congenially combined Mozart, jazz and Pulcinella. And since we are dealing here with Baroque music in a lusty, almost Dadaistic manner, the Rameau pasticcio by the ever original Albéric Magnard was another must. A Baroque concert with a difference, at the centre of which Albrecht Mayer, principal oboist with the Berlin Philharmonic, presents popular and stylish Handel arrangements – a nod to Handel and his festival in Halle. With this concert, its musical director Fabrice Ballon, who was appointed chief conductor of Staatskapelle Halle and Halle Opera at the start of the 2022–23 season, makes his debut at the Handel Festival.
