How can you explain a Handel opera to children and keep them interested? Literary scholar and Grimme Award winner Michael Sommer does it with Playmobil characters! Well-known for his YouTube channel Sommers Weltliteratur to go (“Sommer’s World Literature to go”), he has for many years been producing pithy, witty summaries of world literary classics. Now, together with the ensemble NeoBarock, he recounts Rodelinda in an entertaining new format. In short, humorous video sequences, Playmobil figures present the opera from a surprising perspective – though the eyes of the child Flavio, who observes the power struggles and family intrigues of his parents from a child’s point of view. NeoBarock accompanies him on period instruments with lovingly arranged versions of Handel’s music – a lively and accessible show which is also amazingly topical: Rodelinda, a strong woman who asserts herself against male authority stands up for issues that still concern us today – courage, loyalty and equal rights. A playful introduction to the world of Baroque opera – for young music fans age 6 and over.

A co-production with the Göttingen International Handel Festival. In cooperation with the City of Halle an der Saale.
