Eight authors – eight texts. Commissioned by the Handel House Foundation, Özlem Özgül Dündar, Dirk Laucke, Nele Heyse, Matthias Jügler, Clemens Meyer, Karl-Heinz Ott, Angela Steidele and Alexander Suckel explore this year’s festival theme in a literary manner. Inspired by George Frideric Handel, his music and his home town of Halle, these new texts interweave Handel’s world with the present and sketch their own images of men. Between Baroque splendour and modern fragility, they reflect on historical and contemporary notions of masculinity, at the same time tracking the connections between Handel’s and our present time. The book will be premiered as part of the Handel Festival – in a reading which invites you to listen, think and join the discussion.
