About the instrument

In 1993 the Handel House was able to purchase the fragments of an organ by Johann Gottlieb Mauer. The instrument was built in 1769/70 for the Protestant church in Tegkwitz near Altenburg and was accepted on 17 October 1770 by Johann Ludwig Krebs (1713-1780), who was working as court organist in Altenburg at the time. The instrument was extensively restored in the restoration studio of the Handel House and integrated into the Musical Instrument Museum. Since 2003, the Queen of Instruments has been heard regularly.

AUTHENTIC SOUNDS can be heard on the first Sunday of every month, always at 3.00 pm, in the Händel-Haus. Students of the Protestant University of Church Music Halle or invited soloists play a selected historical keyboard instrument in the Händel-Haus. The Johann Gottlieb Wall organ, which was rebuilt and restored in the Händel House's musical instrument exhibition, sets the tone for the instrument performances.
