It is generally agreed that G. F. Handel is one of the composers who, quite in the spirit of his contemporaries, used the “flauto” in his works specifically to produce special timbres. And it was of course quite usual practice to appropriate the most beautiful and popular works from Handel’s operas for one’s own purposes, either as simple arrangements or as virtuoso concertante pieces for the concert stage. The multi-award-winning Christoph Huntgeburth is one of the most renowned flautists in Germany. Together with the Israeli harpsichordist Avinoam Shalev, who with his German-Israeli ensemble Arava will be a guest performer at Handel House in January 2023, he has compiled a “best-of” selection that guarantees a perfect balance between soulful sensitivity and the greatest possible technical skill.
