Kursaal Bad Lauchstädt

Kursaal Bad Lauchstädt

Set in a park with a pond, pavilions, avenues of clipped trees and colonnades, the Kursaal forms a festive focal point. This “grand salon” was built between 1776 and 1780 by the Dresden architect, Johann Wilhelm Chryselius. The interior decoration was carried out in 1823 to plans by the architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Originally a dance and dining hall on two floors, it is one of the most important German interiors from Goethe’s time. Following thorough refurbishment, the Kursaal is once again a venue of the Handel Festival.
