The Ascania and Fridericiana Academic Singing Societies welcomed the visitors to the first Handel Festival in the Loge zu den drei Degen with choruses by Robert Franz. One hundred years later, in the same venue, but now known as Leopoldina, the Johann Friedrich Reichardt University Choir will be stepping into this role. The musical director Jens Lorenz has compiled a programme based on that of 1922 focusing on the choral music of the Romantic period. The Romantic evening opens with choruses from the “Paradise of the Muses” in Giebichenstein, after which we can wallow in the romantic sounds of the music by Robert Franz, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Max Bruch, Johannes Brahms and others. The Johann Friedrich Reichardt University Choir has been an acknowledged partner of the Handel Festival for many years, performing in numerous concerts including the closing concert and the promenade concert in the Botanical Garden.
