Enjoy many wonderful hours of Handel music with the digital Handel Festival 2021! End of May to mid-June is Handel Festival time in the composer's birthplace Halle (Saale). Due to the ongoing pandemic, there will be a free digital edition in 2021. From 28 May to 13 June, several festival concerts with extremely renowned performers as well as two outstanding concert performances and even a staged opera performance can be experienced online. All films are presented free of charge at www.haendel.digital and can be accessed throughout the Festival.

Experience the modern premiere of Handel's successful opera "Giulio Cesare in Egitto" in the special version from 1725 under the musical direction of the 2021 Handel Prize winner Andrea Marcon. Outstanding baroque singers will take part, for example Emöke Baráth as Cleopatra and Carlo Vistoli as Caesar in the main roles. The renowned La Cetra Barockorchester Basel will perform. Another musical rarity is the German premiere of the Handel Opera Pasticcio "Lucio Papirio dittatore". It will be performed by the English orchestra Opera Settecento under the direction of Leo Duarte and with the participation of several prize winners of the renowned London Handel Singing Competition.

A special highlight is the staged performance of Handel's opera "Ariodante" with the puppet theatre Carlo Colla & Figli from Milan and the Lautten Compagney Berlin conducted by Wolfgang Katschner. This video should be a feast for the eyes and ears.

International stars of baroque music can be experienced in festive concerts with Lucy Crowe and the King's Consort conducted by Robert King as well as with countertenor Andreas Scholl and recorder player Dorothee Oberlinger. In addition, look forward to special concert programmes with Margriet Buchberger and the Schirokko Ensemble Hamburg, offering a musical portrait of the Christian heroine and martyr Theodora. Or embark on an exciting search for traces of the musical influence that Handel's teacher in Halle, Friedrich Wilhelm Zachow, had on his pupil with the concert by Cantus and Capella Thuringia conducted by Bernhard Klapprott.

This multi-faceted programme of events will be complemented by a welcoming address by Rainer Robra, Minister of State and Minister of Culture of the State of Saxony-Anhalt, an honoured laureate short concert by and for Andrea Marcon, a video with explanations of the festival theme "Heroes and Redeemers" (in German language only), in which interesting original exhibits will be shown, as well as a festive lecture and the scientific conference.

It is worth visiting www.haendel.digital more than once.

We would like to thank all our supporters, sponsors, musicians and cooperation partners who make the Handel Festival 2021 digitally possible.
