Twice Heinrich Schütz, the "very best German composer" (Wolfgang Caspar Printz, 1690) traveled the almost 1000 kilometers from Dresden to Copenhagen at the invitation of the Danish King Christian IV. The imposing Danish court orchestra with at times 61 musicians in an international line-up guaranteed the highest quality. Christian IV was connected with Landgrave Moritz of Hesse not only by sponsorship, but also by appreciation for Heinrich Schütz. The program honors Moritz's 450th birthday as well as Schütz's 350th death anniversary with compositions by his students, colleagues and patrons.

In the spirit of the European exchange of the time, the Hamburg Ratsmusik ensemble will make music with the Danish-English vocal ensemble Theatre of Voices in the anniversary year.
