Libretto: Compilation of Charles Jennens, verses from the Old and New Testament
German text version: Johann Gottfried Herder
The famous "Hallelujah" is representative of one of the most important works in music history: Handel's oratorio "Messiah". In addition to the special musical quality, however, one reason for the extraordinary popularity of the work lies in its particular history of reception. For example, the work has been performed in almost uninterrupted succession every year since 1750 in the chapel of the Foundling Hospital in London.
Time and again the Lautten Compagney Berlin has delighted audiences with unique programmes: Original ideas and emotionally charged interpretations based on historical models make the Berlin Original Sound Ensemble and ECHO Classic Prize winner one of the leading ensembles for Baroque music. For their impressive concepts and recordings, the musicians were awarded the Opus-Klassik prize in 2019, among others.
