The Handel Festival traditionally ends in the grandiose setting of the romantic Galgenberg Gorge. Since 1952, this open-air concert has guaranteed a concert evening full of atmosphere. In 2020, visitors can expect a spectacular evening which will once again bring the power of the elements to the stage: in Beethoven’s Meeresstille und glückliche Fahrt or Wagner’s overture The Flying Dutchman, the elements of fire, water, earth and air are echoed in the music. Tradition oblige, Staatskapelle Halle will be sounding the final chord of the Handel Festival under the proven conductorship of Jan Michael Horstmann. Also appearing in the concert is the impressive, virtuoso countertenor Dmitry Egorov, who has enjoyed great international success with his extraordinary skill in the highest male register. The Handel Festival on the theme of musical paintings, as every year, close with Handel’s best-known work: his immortal Fireworks Music, and a musically inspired fireworks display will provide a colourful and effective conclusion to the festival.
