"Some say that compared to Bononcini / Mr Handel is but a poor wretch. / Others claim that Bononcini is hardly worthy / To hold a candle for Handel. / Strange that such a quarrel should arise / Around dideldum and dideldi." - commented the writer John Byrom in 1725 in his "Epigram on the Feuds between Handel and Bononcini" on the dispute between the two composers. The musical showdown between Handel and Bononcini, which at times degenerated into a competition in 1720s London, will also be an attraction at the Handel House in Halle.
