There are birds galore in this concert: nightingales, goldfinches, cuckoos, hens, doves and other feathered friends are forever popping up in Baroque music. The respective repertoire is huge: from Handel’s Sweet Bird to Vivaldi’s Il Gardellino, you can hear chirping and jubilation, sometimes magnificent and virtuosic, sometimes witty and all a-flutter, but at other times intimate and moving. The keepers of this musical bestiary are the South-African recorder player and ECHO Klassik award winner Stefan Temmingh and the soprano Dorothee Mields, the “prima donna of the German early music scene” (MDR). In short, “a colourfully iridescent aviary of little gems” (Magazin Rondo).
