As part of the first Handel Festival, Prof. Dr. phil. Arnold Schering held a festival address entitled “Handel’s World” in the university auditorium on 27 May 1922. This musicologist was for many years chairman of the Monuments of German Music commission, president of the German Society for Musicology, member of the supervisory board of the German Bach Society and, from 1927, chairman of the Handel Society in Halle an der Saale. From 1920 to 1928, Schering was professor of Musicology here. This was established as an academic subject in the early 20th century under Hermann Abert. The festival address by Wolfgang Hirschmann takes as its theme the creative adaptation of the 1922 Handel Festival and the festival address by Arnold Schering.
